Michelin India's new plant will start production of truck tires in the middle of this year

Michelin tires recently stated that its new tire factory in Chennai, India, is expected to be operational in the middle of this year, mainly producing truck tires .

Michelin signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian government of Tamil Nadu in 2009 to build the company’s first factory in India in the Thiruvallur district, 50 km north of Chennai. Michelin has announced that the plant will be put into production in November last year, but was postponed due to a series of obstacles.

Michelin has begun to install production equipment at the new plant and has recruited 600 engineers. Prashant Prabhu, president of the Michelin Group's Africa, India and West Asia region, said that the plant is expected to be operational by mid-year and will produce truck radial tires.

Prashant Prabhu did not reveal why the new plant was put into operation. It only stated that new construction projects will be carried out in the new market and everything needs to start from scratch. It is reported that Michelin encountered obstacles in the acquisition of land and was also protested by nearby villagers.
