Intel on Monday awarded $500,000 for a team that won the game. The team developed a wristband that could be converted into a drone with a camera. Chip makers hope the game will help ensure its leadership in the emerging markets for wearable computing devices. For rock climbers, the four-axis aircraft can be worn around the wrist and can be shot into the air to capture photographs of difficult-to-reach places. Like a boomerang, it will return to its owner's hand and then synchronize with the owner’s smartphone.

Intel’s CEO Brian Kozynik launched a “make it wearable†campaign in January to encourage entrepreneurs and enthusiasts to use Intel’s chips to develop new wearable technologies. The bonus is to help the winners bring their prototypes to market. Koziannik stated in Monday’s ruling: “This is an experiment to see what we can do in this space and see what kind of ideas we have. We can carry it forward. The real value of this game is the team. And diversity of ideas." Samsung Electronics, Motorola and other technology companies are introducing more and more smart watches and fitness equipment, but the wearable category has not yet received the main traction of consumers. Apple plans to launch a smart watch in 2015.
