Nissan Renault Wants to Join GM

Xinbao News (Reporter Gao Wei) On the 6th, Nissan Motor stated that the company is preparing to negotiate with General Motors on a deal that may change the face of the auto industry in order to incorporate this American automaker into the existing business of Nissan and Renault. Alliance.

It is understood that this information was first disclosed by the largest individual shareholder of GM Kirk Kirkian on June 30th. Nissan issued a statement a few days ago and said, “If GM supports and approves this proposal from Nissan’s shareholders, (the company’s board of directors) approves Nissan’s tentative negotiations with General Motors to form an alliance.”
The Nissan board of directors will authorize Nissan and Renault’s CEO Carlos Ghosn to negotiate with General Motors. Ghosn won the support of Kirk Kerkian, the largest individual shareholder of General Motors, two weeks ago. Kerkorian holds a 9.9% stake in General Motors and he urges General Motors to consider the proposal. However, both Nissan and Renault said that only when all the directors of GM unanimously approved the proposal, they would carry out this transaction, and the current GM directors have not yet done so.

It is reported that GM’s board of directors held an emergency meeting last Friday to discuss the deal and considered establishing an internal committee to evaluate the proposal. But so far, the American automaker has not been able to join the Nissan and Renault alliances.
