Involved political dispute Mazda's sales in China plummeted by 35% in September

On October 4th, Mazda announced that it sold 13,258 vehicles in China in September this year, a sharp decline of 35% from the same period last year.

Mazda has experienced a number of sales declines this year. In August, it sold 17,497 vehicles, down 11% year-on-year. As China and Japan have escalated their disputes over the sovereignty of the Diaoyu Islands and Chinese consumers boycott Japanese cars, the downward trend in sales of Mazda in China has intensified. From January to September of this year, Mazda's cumulative sales in the Chinese market were 148,116 units, down 6% year-on-year.

Maota Motors Shanghai spokesperson and Naoto Oikawa said that Mazda’s sales in China have been shrinking every month since April of this year. “I’m certain that there are some influences, but it’s hard to tell how much sales fell last month. The degree is because of anti-Japanese operations."
