American auto parts supplier BorgWarner and Honeywell announced that the two companies have reached an agreement on patent infringement cases. Honeywell has reportedly agreed to pay BorgWarner a $32.5 million grant to acquire the BorgWarner patent license in question. However, other specific terms of the two company solutions have not yet been made public. In 2007, BorgWarner filed a lawsuit against Honeywell, claiming that Honeywell infringed three of their patents on the use of titanium wheels on turbochargers in engines. In a complaint submitted to the court by BorgWarner, BorgWarner made a huge investment in turbocharged technology, but Honeywell applied these inventions without permission. It is reported that BorgWarner initially hoped to obtain more than US$100 million in compensation from Hollevny for this infringement case.
